Starting early this February, we’re making some changes to our subscription plans in order to invest in and build upon our most used and requested features.
Over the past 7 years, we’ve heard a lot of feedback about how growers use technology on their farms, and we've used that feedback to build tools that make running a farm easier.
Everyone involved in farming understands just how complex of a job running a farm really is.
I struggle to think of another type of business that requires the person running it to have to deal with so many dynamic situations. Sometimes when I’m explaining this to non-farmers I like to use the following analogy:
Imagine a farm as a factory. Farmers are running factories (land) that need to take in raw goods (seed, fertilizer, chem), run processes (field work), warehouse and distribute the output (storage & transport), and sell the product (marketing). In most large scale manufacturing businesses, you would have specialized departments for each one of these functions. On a farm, you’re lucky if you have some good hired help to get some of the work done.
Not only is the range of things that I just described incredibly diverse but to make matters even more challenging you have to consider that instead of machines running in a predictable manner like a normal factory, farmers are actually managing a biological process with a huge unpredictable variable (weather) that impacts the entire manufacturing process.
All of this is really just to say that modern day farming requires you to be good at many different things.
I’m truly inspired by everything that our customers accomplish when it comes to running such vastly complex businesses. That’s why the FarmLogs team cares so much about making our app do more than just one thing. As a farmer, you don’t get to just source inputs, just do field work, or just do marketing. You have to do all those things, and more, to run a successful operation.
With FarmLogs, keeping up with everything the farming life throws at you gets a little easier.
You don’t have to guess if you can send the sprayer to the fields 10 miles away from the home farm. You can show your banker how profitable you’re expecting to be next year. Generating a report to certify acreage with your insurance agent is just one click away. Finding the best time to lock in local basis and running a professional hedging strategy becomes a breeze. And you can use one, simple app to tie it all together.
This season, we’re excited to help you get the most out of your account and the information that helps you operate such a challenging business. We’re introducing some changes to our subscription plans that will give away less for free, but help us invest more in the tools we provide and continue to protect customer data. We’re forming new partnerships that make FarmLogs more connected so you have access to the best solutions even when they don’t come from us. And earlier this year, we launched a first of its kind grain hedging product that makes it possible to sell your grain right within the FarmLogs experience.
We believe that technology can make it easier to run a farm, and we aim to provide our growers with tools that help them achieve success.
To those of you who have been with us every step of the way, we thank you and hope to continue providing you with tools that make running your farm a little easier. For those who are just getting started, we can’t wait for you to explore all that our app has to offer.
And as always, we look forward to continuing to hear your feedback so we can fix our mistakes and provide you with the tools you really need. Let’s make 2019 great.
